Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore the agreement or consistency
between the Q Block and the Q Tool, both of which were constructed to
identify typologies based on the factors found initially with Q
methodology. Both tools are very useful to examine the characteristics
of people who belong to a specific type, and to test the difference by
types in terms of demographics and other related variables. This study
adopted two examples to test the agreement rate, which is defined by the
percentage of people indicated as having the same type by both tools.
The first example, with three factors, showed 62.20 percent agreement,
while the second example comprising four factors showed 70.08 percent
agreement. Researchers should be aware of the advantages and limitations
of each tool when they choose one.
