Abstract

Georgia State University’s Cross-Institutional Collaboration and Reimagining toward Equity, Access, and Teacher Effectiveness (CREATE) program is just one casualty in the Trump administration’s effort to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Bearing the brunt of this termination—as well as the loss of other grants from the Department of Education and the National Science Foundation—are Atlanta’s neediest students and teachers. This piece questions the meaning of fair while outlining several unjust policies of the American government that have disproportionately harmed Black Americans, other minority groups, and women, and challenges readers to heed the lessons of history as we work to preserve American higher education.
