A Species of Trichodina (Ciliophora: Mobilida: Trichodinidae) Infesting Channel Catfish ( Ictalurus punctatus ) from the Verdigris River, Oklahoma

Abstract

A Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) from the Verdigris River, Oklahoma, wasfound to harbor a ciliate,Trichodinasp., on its gills. There are three previously reported species ofTrichodinafrom North AmericanI. punctatus, but none from fish hosts in Oklahoma. We thereforedocument a new geographic record for a trichodinid from any fish in the state.
