Note on the range expansion of the black vulture (Coragyps atratus) into southwestern Oklahoma and north-central Texas
Main Article Content
Abstract
During the past 20-odd years, the Black Vulture (Coragyps
atratus) has occurred with increasing frequency westward from eastern
parts of Oklahoma. In southwestern Oklahoma and adjacent north Texas,
only nine records were known before 1990, but by 2014 this species had
become so numerous there that it is now considered a resident in several
counties. This is thought to reβlect a synonymous range expansion
throughout the southern Great Plains.
